Frequently Asked Questions About LED Light Bars
What is LED lighting?
LED stands for Light Emitting Diode. This type of light is produced by a semiconductor through a process called electroluminescence. Sounds impressive, doesn't it? This process is much more energy-efficient than that of a traditional incandescent bulb, and LEDs have a significantly longer lifespan. Their small size and lower operating temperature also make it possible to use them in designs that would be impossible with conventional light bulbs.
What color temperature do the LED light bars have?
The color temperature varies slightly between our different brands. Lazer uses a color temperature of 5000 Kelvin, while STEDI uses 5700 Kelvin. Both produce a clean, white light. It is generally above 6000 Kelvin that the light begins to take on a bluish tint.
Where can I buy LED light bars?
Extraljuskungen offers one of the largest selections of LED light bars online, featuring some of the best brands in their respective price ranges. You can find our entire selection under the main category LED LIGHT BARS, as well as under the individual brands AVELUX, LAZER and STEDI. To help you make the right purchase, each product page includes detailed information about the product, specifications, dimensions and what is included in the package, such as side mounting brackets, wiring harnesses and other accessories. This makes it easier to choose the right LED light bar for your needs. We also sell complete LED light bar kits that include the light bar, wiring harness and sturdy mounting brackets. These can be attached using mounting screws or split rivets, a type of pop rivet that provides a secure attachment to plastic bumpers. Alternatively, you are welcome to visit our showroom and store in Avesta, Sweden, where you can explore our LED light bars and our extensive range of other vehicle lighting products before making your purchase.
Where can I have my LED light bar installed?
As we ship our LED light bars directly to customers, we do not offer an installation service. If you need help with installation, we recommend taking your vehicle and the LED light bar you purchased to a nearby workshop for professional installation. A standard installation should normally take no more than an hour. You can also install the light bar yourself or ask a friend for assistance. If you have some previous experience working on vehicles and basic DIY skills, installation is usually straightforward. To make the process easier, we provide installation tips and instructions in several places on our website, including guides explaining how to connect a wiring harness. With these instructions, some basic DIY knowledge and the right tools, you can install your LED light bar yourself. Just remember that you may need to purchase a few tools, borrow them from a friend or use tools you already own.
Why should I install an LED light bar on my vehicle?
Many people install our LED light bars on their cars, vans, pickups, trucks and other vehicles because they frequently drive after dark and want better illumination of the road and roadside. Improved lighting can make a significant difference to safety when driving at night. An LED light bar not only helps illuminate the road ahead but also makes your vehicle more noticeable to others and allows you to spot animals approaching the road from surrounding forests. In many situations, you can make full use of your high beams when driving outside built-up areas without oncoming traffic. When driving in poor visibility, yellow light can sometimes be beneficial because it can reduce glare and improve visibility in fog, snow, dust and rain compared with white light. Yellow covers are available as accessories for certain LED light bar models. Finally, some people choose to install auxiliary driving lights simply because they look fantastic. With their impressive appearance and reflective surfaces, they are both practical and stylish accessories that can enhance the look of your vehicle. Even if you do not use them regularly, they can give your vehicle a tougher, more luxurious and distinctive appearance. If you prefer a more discreet solution, there are slim LED light bars that blend in with the vehicle's design. Some models are also curved, commonly referred to as curved LED light bars.
What size LED light bar will fit on the roof of my vehicle?
When purchasing a lighting solution for your vehicle, it is important to check the dimensions to ensure a proper fit. All our product pages include descriptions and dimensions, allowing you to measure your vehicle and determine the maximum length of LED light bar you can install. Start by measuring the available space on your vehicle's roof and comparing it with the dimensions listed on our product pages. Remember that the mounting system, including the side brackets, may require more space than the LED light bar itself.
How can I install my LED light bar without drilling into my vehicle?
We offer several LED light bar models that can be installed without drilling, cutting or welding. However, you will need suitable mounting brackets, some basic tools and possibly a few additional accessories. Certain mounting brackets can be positioned behind your vehicle's license plate. In most cases, you simply remove the license plate and install a bracket that allows the LED light bar to be mounted below the license plate or bumper. This type of installation generally requires no drilling, cutting or welding into the vehicle's bodywork. Simply choose one of our complete LED light bar kits, which includes the light bar, mounting bracket and wiring harness. Depending on your vehicle and installation method, you may also need self-drilling mounting screws or split rivets to secure the bracket to the bumper, as well as wire taps, cable terminals, switches and other electrical accessories. You can find all these products in our
INSTALLATION category.
Do I need a wiring harness with a relay?
Yes! Any additional electrical equipment that draws significant power should be installed using a properly rated relay and fuse to prevent overloading or damaging the vehicle's electrical system. All STEDI LED light bars come with a wiring harness that includes a relay, along with a pair of high beam adapters for the most common bulb connectors. Vehicle-specific high beam adapters are also available separately. The relay allows the LED light bar to receive the power it requires directly from the vehicle's battery. The relay is also replaceable, so there is no need to replace the entire wiring harness if the relay fails. The wiring harness includes a fuse holder and fuse to protect the electrical circuit, along with quick-connect plugs compatible with our LED light bars. It also features a switch that allows you to turn off the LED light bar and use only the vehicle's original high beams.
What is the difference between raw lumens and effective lumens?
Raw lumens represent a theoretical value of light output rather than an actual measurement of usable light. Raw lumens are calculated by multiplying the theoretical lumen output of each LED by the total number of LEDs in the light bar. Effective lumens, on the other hand, represent the actual measured light output, taking into account thermal and optical losses as well as the power level at which the LEDs are operated. This measurement is carried out using advanced photometric equipment that measures the actual lumen output of a light source.
Do I need black protective covers for my LED light bar?
No. The LED light bars we sell are designed to withstand year-round use without protective covers. Black protective covers are mainly intended for markets where local regulations require auxiliary lights to be covered when driving on public roads.
